The Story

Gunpowder Organic Green Tea

This is our organic version of Gunpowder (Temple of Heaven  ~ Gunpowder ) it produces soft honey or coppery brew, with a herby or grassy, smooth light taste.
The name 'Gunpowder' derives from its process, as once the leaves have been withered and steamed they are rolled into small pellets, without breaking the leaf veins, so the enzymes, or juices of the leaf are not released. These are then dried. The pellets look remarkably like gunshot or gunpowder giving the tea its descriptive name.

A classic green tea direct from the growers in China.

The best green tea for producing kombucha.

Cup Colour: yellow-green.

Amount of tea per cup: 1 slightly heaped teaspoon.

Brewing time: Use freshly drawn water at 80C for 2 to 3 minutes.

If you are new to green teas, then Chun Mee, Gunpowder, or Sencha are the best places to start, but always remember to use water at 80C, boiling water kills the green tea flavour.
